The visual appeal

Here is a nice mate in 2 which took me a little while to solve. I like this, not because of the difficulty (you should be able to find the answer in under 5 minutes), but just because of the nice layout of the pieces. (Composed by F. Schrufer)

Nice one Shawn...Is 1 Qa6 the key ...

I would say 1 Bg2.

Yes, 1.Bg2 is very elegant!

Paul, you are duped. 1 Qa6 is refuted by 1...Rxb8 CHECK when White has no mate on the 2nd move.

1.Qb3 wins!!

Nice solution, plus a simple arrangement of pieces!
Qb3 runs into Rxb8+ & although its winning, its not mate in 2.

Well, I tried and used my own brain not a computer...C'est la vie...:-)

1. Qb3 wins. This took me about 30 seconds to do and I'm a rabbit at 1600. You don't need 5 minutes for this.

But Qb3 is not the answer, "anonymous". Lots of things win, but the solution is Bg2.
