Feeling the rust

I haven't played a serious game of chess in about 2 months, and the rust is already showing through. This is a position from a game I played this evening, and having negotiated my way through a tricky open I ended up here. I am black, my opponent has just played Re4-c4. I reflexively captured on c4 (with the rook), and after a couple more moves my opponent resigned (a little early as it turns out). But what did I miss here?

...Rg2+. If Kg2 then Qg4+ followed by either Qf3+ or Qe2+, mating.

To take that a little further,
...Qe2+; Kg2 Qf2+; Kh3 Qf3+; Kh4
Rh2+; Kg5 Rh5#!

What if 1. Rxg2 Kh1 - Perhaps just 2.Rxc4 dxc4 3.f3!? Rxb6 4.Rxf2 threatening Rf1 mate, and if 4..Kg1 then Qg4+ leads to mate. So 4..Rb1 looks pretty forced but it's unclear then despite blacks material advantage.
