very wet start. While Canberra has been pretty dry for the last 7 or so years, today appeared to be the start of monsoon season. The festival was supposed to start at noon, but the rain started late yesterday evening, and reached its peak at about 11:45am. (See picture!)However if life serves you lemons etc so I took the opportunity to give the ACT governments giant chess pieces a good scrub. In the meantime the festival organisers made the sensible decision to delay the start until 6pm.
Returning at 6pm there was a steady stream of punters ready to play some chess. The quality of play was mixed, but I almost came undone against a former Canberra junior (game to follow in a later post). Overall everyone enjoyed the experience, and it was just a shame that the weather cut the playing time from 8 hours to 2 hours.
