ACT Chess Championship completed

A couple of months ago I posted about "A surprise ACT Championship" Well not only was the start of the tournament a surprise to some, the finish has been a surprise also. In fact the event was completed 3 weeks ago, but the results were not widely disseminated. Although a couple of people had mentioned to me that they thought if finished in a 4 way tie, there was no official release of the results from the organisers. I only found out yesterday what the full results were, when someone said that one of the players had passed them on to Ian Rout, who had placed them here.
So a belated congratulation to Allen Setiabudi, Mos Ali, Justin Chow and Bill Sargent, who finished equal first on the 2008 ACT Championship.

Congratulations to all concerned, especially Allen.

Still find in bemusing how one can end up at the top of the table and yet go down in rating points. I am not questioning in any way what so ever Ian's calculations by the way.

Seem to recall that a similar thing happened to Junta Ikeda when he won the Belconnen Open a few years ago.

The reason that a player can fall in rating while winning a tournament is that the ratings work on the score you make vs the score you are expected to make against the field you played, irresepective of where that puts you on the table. On the other side of the coin you can get a low score and have your rating rise.

The rating changes listed are just for information and not official, and are approximate as the formula cannot be replicated. But for players with reasonably established ratings (and opponents the same) and not an unusually large or small number of games they should be in the area. They are especially inaccurate for recent starters, who will find their rating moving (usually upwards) at a faster rate.

Thank you for the information, Ian. It has increased my understanding. Appreciated.

Well done all.

One quick question, is it just me, or are the details down the bottom of Ian's page wrong? Because it says the event was held at the "Belconnen CC"

Yes, that was wrong (template copied from earlier tournament) and is now fixed. Also amended time to show two time limits used.
