Zhao out in 2

The 2011 World Cup started yesterday, and already some players are ready to return home. Unfortunately one of this players is Australian GM Zong Yuan Zhao, who lost 2-0 to Evgeny Tomashevsky. In both games Tomashevsky sacrificed a pawn in the opening (Game 1 Catalan, Game 2 Marshall), but then generated enough play to make up for the shortfall.
Another player who is also leaving after Round 1 is Peter Leko, who lost 1.5-0.5 to Samuel Shankland of the US. As I write this there are still games in progress, and matches that end 1-1 will go into the rapidplay phase tomorrow. You can follow the action at chess.ugrasport.com

I thought Peter Leko and Sam Shankland were a class apart - quite amazing to see that result. -pp
